FIrst day back...
Our first day home from Russia was great. Since we came home a day early, Dave decided to stay home and enjoy a little family time before returning to work. It truly was a "down day" as all we did was hang with the kids, my parents & my grandmother, sharing photos, stories and presenting gifts from our trip half way around the world. How we missed our family!I have a nasty earache, sore throat and sinus funk going on. It all started at the airport in Moscow before our departure. The cigarette smoke was overwhelming to my sinuses and started me sneezing with with throbbing sinuses. When we started our decent in Atlanta I knew I was in trouble! I'm hoping I get through this quickly and can jump back into a bit of normalcy
Anyway, we're home and loving America! When we arrived in Atlanta we had to go through passport control and customs. Honestly, I felt like kissing a few of the airport employees! I will never complain about our airport security again! They made re-entry a joy. One employee in the baggage re-check area even announced as we approached his area that we should "put your passports away, people, you're in America now!" It was so pleasant to see smiles and offers for help and direction in getting through the terminal.
The boys did rather well on the first part of the near-12 hour flight. Jadon took a good little nap and Roman was peaceful as well. After a good lunch and a small amount of activity (how much can toddlers do in a cramped airplane?) they started to get antsy, then very tired; the time change was really effecting them. Jadon was so exhausted, the poor thing couldn't wind down. Getting him to sleep was a feat not even four loving family members were able to accomplish! We basically pacified him as best we could.
There was a sweet couple from North Carolina coming home from their first trip meeting their son. They watched us like hawks, soaking in everything. They were great encouragement and a breath of fresh air after the endless grouchy people we encountered the past two weeks! It was evident, after several conversations, that they were believers and by the time we were picking up our luggage in baggage claim, Chris had given them his blog address and we were all committing to pray for one another. When Christ is a common bond, even strangers feel like family!
So today Dave is heading back to work, I'll be doing laundry, school with the kids and getting ready for Dave's dad who's arriving tomorrow from Ohio. Mollie and Penny's birthday's are on Tuesday, so I'll have to start preparing for that as well. I guess life doesn't stop and it's time to hit the floor running!
I kept a daily journal throughout our trip so, starting tomorrow I will begin a day by day posting of our Russian adventure, beginning in St. Petersburg and ending with our last day in Moscow. Stay tuned!

Glad you're back safely.. I'll pray for a speedy recovery! A renewed appreciation and affection for America seems to be one of the themes of this trip from what I read on all three blogs! :) We are blessed.
