Loggerhead Triathlon
Yesterday my husband competed in his first ever Triathlon. He's been training consistently since March for the Loggerhead Triathlon in Jupiter, Florida which is held annually and very heavily attended with around 600 competitors. The event consisted of a 3/8 mile ocean swim, a 13 mile bike ride and a 5K run, in that order. I was so proud of him when he crossed the finish line! His time fell right in the window he set his goal for - 1:28! Here are a few photos of his experience...

What I did yesterday...

Here's the view from my horizontal sun-tanning position on the beach in Delray yesterday. Not bad, huh?

Snowbirds beware!!!
This picture was taken by my two teenagers during a walk on the beach on what was for most Floridians a chilly day. Thus my assumption that this poor unsuspecting woman must be a snowbird! Any of you out there who plan on visiting our sunny beaches this winter, beware, you may be my next post under the label 'fun picts'!

Holiday Parade

Yesterday Andrew and his Local Sea Cadet Division marched in the annual Jupiter/Tequesta Holiday Parade. We spent a couple of hours as a family enjoying the festive feel of the procession of elected officals, high school marching bands and brownie troops. The weather cooperated and even was a bit cool & windy making for a nice Florida "winter" day. I would venture to guess that there are no small towns lining the east coast of south Florida, but our trip to Jupiter sure gave off the warmth that often accompanies such bedroom communities. It was a nice, illusory respite from the hustle of suburbia at Christmastime!

Carnival!
Almost every year since I can remember our family has attended my dad's union Christmas picnic the first Saturday in December. It's actually a barbeque style event in which they host a carnival for the whole family. Our kids have loved it and this year my little nephews got to enjoy it for the first time.
This is the first year I avoided all rides....40, need I say more? Just the thought of getting spun around in a giant strawberry makes my stomach spasm! My brother took the role of the "fun uncle/daddy" and joined the kids on various gut-wrenching rides. It was hilarious and made for some fun photos. Here are a few of my favorites...

Sleepover!!!

Last night was a big first! Thanks to my trusting brother and sister-in-law, my sweet little nephews did their very first sleepover with us! They were real champs, too! We had some yummy dinner, played outside on the swings a bit, and took a bubble bath in the big, big tub, watched a little Carmen & Dora, read a book, prayed and out they went to the sweet sound of classical music! They slept from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and woke up smiling! I couldn't have asked for a sweeter time!

Me and My Neice

I have three nephews and one niece. ONE! She lives in North Carolina and this is the first time I've seen her in almost two years. She's growing up so fast and at the age of 7 I can't believe how bright and creative she is. I think she'll definitely be an author some day. I say that because as I've been sitting here at the computer reading blogs she made me a little book out of a post-it note pad. It's actually very good! Here's a fun picture from photobooth of me and the little princess.

Oh, the things we'll do...

Jadon's birthday was spent with the family at a beautiful beach-side hotel with an amazing swimming pool for the kids. The slide was the highlight for Roman and he easily talked me in to taking him down it a few times. Even Grampy got in on the action!

Jadon turns TWO!
This picture epitomizes little JJ's personality! Both boys were playing on the trampoline and I was clicking away when he decided to run at me and jump into my arms. I managed to click this shot just before I dropped the camera and grabbed him!
My eyes well up as I type these words....I can't imagine life without this vivacious and extraordinary baby boy. He's got a chunk of my heart I never thought I could give away (his brother has another big chunk of it!). So, my little nephew, Happy Birthday from Totya. You are the bomb, my little man-child!

What I've been up to.....
Due to the fact that all three of my children are away for various reasons this week, I decided to take the opportunity to do a little painting around the house. We've lived in our home for almost 10 years now and the master bedroom, bathroom and t.v. room have not been painted since we first moved in. I think every other room in the house has been done and redone several times, but these rooms have been left sadly neglected.
Summertime is not the time I like to do projects this size, perhaps out of guilt that we should be doing something fun as a family. So while the kids are gone, I'm getting all of my projects in so that when they return we can fully enjoy the rest of their break from school work.
Unfortunately, I have no before pictures, but the difference is so vast in these rooms that the previous conditions of each of them are forever etched in my mind! I've yet to complete the bathroom, but it will be wrapped up by the weekend, I promise, and photos will follow.
So here's photo-proof of what I"ve been up to....and yes, I'm exhausted!

Florida Family Fun...

Over the past few weeks we've begun enjoying some of the outdoor benefits of living in Florida. Penny & I were given the unusual opportunity to go with some of her girlfriends out to a huge sandbar up off of Hutchinson Island. We were escorted by a pontoon boat for the 30 minute ride to our destination--Roman and J.J's very first boat ride! This first photo is obviously the trip back to the mainland....they were little sleepy heads after so much excitement!
The second photo is another no-brainer...Grampy & Andrew enjoying a little underwater silliness during one of our weekly family nights. Chris got a waterproof camera several weeks ago and we've had some laugh-out-loud fun with that! I'm sure I'll have many more amusing pict's to share as the summer progresses.

Hey, that looks like a snake in our yard!

Peeking out the window to our back yard, Mollie thought she saw what looked like a snake. I couldn't resist and grabbed the camera. Sure enough we had a 3 foot black racer chowing down on an afternoon snack. He wasn't thrilled I was watching him, but he was so consumed with trying to fit a tree frog into his mouth, all he really did was just keep an eye on me while dining. I'm not a lover of snakes, but tree frogs are at the top of my list of detested reptiles, so I'm good with one less stuck to my french doors!

Peek-a-Boo!
This weekend I had the opportunity to do some photos of Penny's sister and family while they were visiting from North Carolina. We met at Howard Park in West Palm and, after the shoot, we had great fun playing with Roman & Jadon in the big banyan trees. As you can see, Jadon is quite yummy!
